Red Wing Ashtray from Hutchison Pottery

Question:
My husband’s mother gave us this Red Wing that she has had for many years. She said she was told it was made from the orignal red wing mold that was purchased by Hutchsons Pottery. Can you verify any of this and what would be the value? Thank you, Dawn

Answer: Hi Dawn

it is a red wing shape, the winged ashtray. After the factory closed, Hutchinson did reuse some of the Red Wing molds in a pottery of his own. this would be one of those items. Still kind of neat, a lot of his items don’t show up. It would be from the late 60′s, Red Wing closed in 1967. Value is around 75.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose

The last time i heard the value of this vase was 7 years ago and at that time it was 270 dollars, i guess i have 2 questions 1. whats the actual value today. 2. how would you describe it if you where going to sell it. The number on the bottom is 157. Thanks for your time and i hope the picture i sent is not to large. Josh

Answer: Hi Josh

You didn’t mention a size, this one comes in 3 different heights, 9,12, and 15". It’s an early Red Wing artware item, from around 1930, the glaze is called combination green and white. I think 270.00 may be a bit on the high side, now. Maybe 225.00. Still a nice vase. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing 930 vase

Question:
I have a beautiful vase that I got when my Gran passed away. It is marked Redwing 930. It is a beautiful matte light green with a cream interior glaze. I was wondering when it was made (a date range would be great) and if I need to have it insured as a rider for my home owners as I don’t want to sell it but want to protect it if it is valuable. Thank you for any information you can give me on my vase. I truly treasure it as it is a reminder of Gran and has a place of honor in my home. Richard

Answer: Hi Richard

your vase dates to around 1939-1940. It’s not part of any particular line, but a lot of vases were designed in this timeframe. Value is around 50.00 or so. Hope this helps, thanks, steve n rose

Red WIng 836 planter

Question:
I just purchased my first piece of red wing pottery. It looks like a planter and the color is seafoam green with a raised oval pattern on the outside. the entire piece is glazed with a few spots were the color is missing but it is not chipped. On the bottem reads; RED WING USA 836. How much is this piece worth. I only payed $8.00 for it. Thanks Karen

Answer: Hi Karen

be careful, there always seems to be more that follow, after the first one! This is a planter, from 1963. An occasional glaze miss is acceptable. It has a value of double what you paid for it. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing Art Pottery, 212/118

Question:
We found this neat ‘pot’ on the East Coast of Florida at a brand new antiques mall. The seller didn’t even know it was Red Wing, although obviously the mark on the bottom says, "Red Wing Art Pottery." The ‘pot’ or vase stands approx. 9 1/2" and measures 7" at its maximum circumference. Interestly, it has TWO mold #s stamped on its bottom! #212 AND #118. It looks like unfinished brushware. It has the beautiful green interior, but NO designs on the exterior. Question = what is the piece and how much is it worth? Thank you for your research & investigation. J+K

Answer: J+k

it is an odd one, I don’t have anything on the #118, except a birdbath, but #212 is a shape number from the late twenties, a plain, simple form, usually done in Nokomis glaze, but as you see, it’s not…. it looks like it never got finished, lots of odd things got out of the factory. Value is around 90.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
