Red Wing M-3015 decorator line vase, designer Charles Murphy.

Question:
I have a 20" Red Wing USA Green vase marked M-3015. There are a few chips on the underside of the high relief areas. How much do chips effect the value and is it better to repair the damage or leave it alone? Lisa

Answer: Hi Lisa

this is part of Charles Murphy’s decorator line, circa 1959. It has a book value of around 375.00. The chips will hurt it, everyone seems to want "perfect". Repairs are fairly expensive, I would just leave it as found. Still a nice vase, it may bring 200.00 or so as is. thanks, steve n rose

Large vase with horse scene

Question:
Hi any chance this could be Red Wing. Been in our family for at least 50 years. Mark on bottom 159,C. Stands about 12" high. Thought it looked a little like your brushwear picture. Probably not but enjoyed your reading your site here in UK. Jean

Answer: Hi Jean

it is similiar to brushed ware, but not a Red Wing item. Not sure who made this one, but it looks nice, very classic design. It appears to be bisque, is it glazed? Can’t really give you a price, either! Wish I could be of more assistance. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing 1337, chicken planter

Question:
I have a cold paint white swan planter with green interior and it also has a baby swan in the front next to the mother it has red wing USA 337. Do you have any idea of the value. I am a new pottery collector and this is my first red wing piece. Thanks so much! Debbie

Answer: Hi Debbie

the swan and chick planter is #1337, and dates to around 1947. In reference to "cold" paint, I refer to that as being painted over the glaze, which will wash or wear off. Your swan shouldn’t have that, unless someone adjusted the color on their own. They came in several glaze combinations, and have a value of around 80.00 or so. Welcome to pottery collecting! thanks, steve n rose
