Red Wing Vase

Question:
I have a couple pieces of Red Wing…but not very knowledgable on them as I got them from my mom who now has Alzheimers…and was once VERY knowledgable in most all collectibles…unfortunately all she can comment on now is that the pieces are very good…but not much more than that. The one in question is it is stamped with a circular blue inked "Red Wing Art Pottery" with a number that can be either 909 or 606 depending on which way you hold it! My other pieces are impressed with name Red Wing. It has also considerable crazing which I think adds to it’s attractiveness…but I have no idea if that is good or not. Also I have another piece which is not marked anywhere and totally clueless on it which I will probably have to send in another e-mail as the max is 2mb here. I am anxious to learn…Thank-you so much.

Red Wing Candle Holder

Question:
I have a candle holder that holds 2 candles. It looks very old and is marked RED WING U.S.A. with what looks like the #6228. All the marks are faint and hard to see so the number may be wrong. The base is 3 leaves and the holders look like rose buds. It is in excellent condition! Is this piece rare and what is the age? What would you estimate the value? Thanks, Sherry

Charles Murphy, Red Wing M-1540

Question:
I have a piece of Red Wing that I’m having trouble getting information on. I’ve taken out the books at my new library but no success. Before I moved I was able to get info from another book but can’t seem to find it again. It says on bottom, Red Wing USA, M-1540 so I believe it was made by Charles Murphy. From the earlier book it said it was made in 1956. (No pictures though) Can you confirm the info I do have? Also what would be the value on it and is it common? The outside color is a light brown and the inside is mostly a lime green with cream and gray lines. Modern looking. Thanks so much for your help. I love your site, I learned so much today!

Boystown Pottery

Question:
Hello. I have a piece of pottery that I am selling on ebay for a friend. My friend told me it was from the 1920′s era and says so because Red Wing took over manufacturing of this in the 1930′s. The piece I have has boystown inscribed on the bottom of the piece and if my friend is correct they only did that at Boystown and when done by Red Wing it was painted or stamped on the pottery. I have a customer that whats to know what evidence I have that Red Wing did any pottery for Boystown. Can you tell me if there is any truth as to when and if Red Wing did any pottery for boystown. If you want to see the piece look up boys town on ebay under pottery. There is only a few pieces on right now and mine is a vase and my user name is tankster41. Any help would greatly be appreciated. thank you very much
