Question:
I have a couple pieces of Red Wing…but not very knowledgable on them as I got them from my mom who now has Alzheimers…and was once VERY knowledgable in most all collectibles…unfortunately all she can comment on now is that the pieces are very good…but not much more than that. The one in question is it is stamped with a circular blue inked "Red Wing Art Pottery" with a number that can be either 909 or 606 depending on which way you hold it! My other pieces are impressed with name Red Wing. It has also considerable crazing which I think adds to it’s attractiveness…but I have no idea if that is good or not. Also I have another piece which is not marked anywhere and totally clueless on it which I will probably have to send in another e-mail as the max is 2mb here. I am anxious to learn…Thank-you so much.

Answer: Thanks for the question and picture, most helpful, as this is shape # 209. A lot of the ink stamps aren’t very legible. Circa 1930, early Red Wing Artware, in yellow glaze. Most all of this color, and green had a "crackle" type finish, not "crazing", so no harm there. Fairly unusual shape, and in good condition worth around $175.00 or so. It’s a nice vase to inherit, your Mom has good taste. thanks, steve n rose
