Question:
Hello. I have a piece of pottery that I am selling on ebay for a friend. My friend told me it was from the 1920′s era and says so because Red Wing took over manufacturing of this in the 1930′s. The piece I have has boystown inscribed on the bottom of the piece and if my friend is correct they only did that at Boystown and when done by Red Wing it was painted or stamped on the pottery. I have a customer that whats to know what evidence I have that Red Wing did any pottery for Boystown. Can you tell me if there is any truth as to when and if Red Wing did any pottery for boystown. If you want to see the piece look up boys town on ebay under pottery. There is only a few pieces on right now and mine is a vase and my user name is tankster41. Any help would greatly be appreciated. thank you very much

Answer: Red Wing did not produce any pottery for Boystown, in Omaha. They had their own shop where the children learned the pottery trade. They have roots from Muncie Pottery, one of their main people left and started up the pottery at Boystown. A lot of the glazes are similar to Muncies. The piece you are selling was made in Omaha, Nebraska. Hope this helps, Steve n Rose
