Red Wing 179

Question:
I have been trying to find out what this item’s offical title is, with not luck. It is listed under "ink stamped" on one web site, but that is all I have been able to find out about it. Can you help? The bottom appears to have 179 on it.

Answer: This is a shape 179, early artware, made by Red Wing. Dates to around 1930 or so. It could be used as a pitcher, but it is really just part of the artware line. The glaze looks to be light green. Value is around 80.00 or so in good condition. thanks, steve n rose

Rumrill 291

Question:
I found a green matte Rumrill vase with fluted edge labeled on bottom "Rumrill 291". Is it the Nokomis glaze, where and when was it produced and its approximate value? I paid 4.99$……

Answer:  It would have been made after 1932 for it to be marked Rumrill, but it is llisted as a shape done in Nokomis. Red Wing would have been the maker, and value is around 175.00 or so. Nice find. thanks, steve n rose

Art Ware Collection from 778-762 & 682

Question:
My wife and I have been collecting various pieces of Redwing Artware and have settled on collecting pieces with the light green base and bronze/brown wash. Was this color variation used widely by Redwing or was it confined to a certain group or category? The numbers on some of the pieces are 778-762 & 68

Answer: The numbers you give me point to 1938 or so. Sounds like a Rumrill glaze, Goldenrod. This is a timeframe when Redwing was switching from rumrill’s glazes to new ones of their own, but with the two tone color, think Goldenrod is it. They also fit in with Belle Kogan’s "100" line, which was right after Rumrill’s departure. If you can send me a pic that wuld be great. thanks, steve n rose
