Red Wing Mini Jug – reproduction

Question:
Hi, I purchased a tiny 1 1/2" 5 gallon Red Wing Jug, the person in the antique store told me that this was old and that it was a salesmen’s sample. I have never come across anything like this one and wondered if it was authentic, if it REALLY was a salesmen’s sample and the value of this piece. In the tiny logo it says Red Wing on the top line, Union Stoneware in the middle, and Co. under that and Red Wing, Minn on the bottom. It appears to have the ski oval design. After looking at this further, I’m afraid that it is only a reproduction. Your expertise and info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance, for your time. Shani

Question:
I have three Red Wing items that have the following numbers embossed in the on the bottom. The numbers are 1038; m-1522; and m-1422. Coul you tell me what the pieces are?? Joe

Answer: Hi Joe

The 1038 is a simple bowl, value around 20.00 or so. The M-1422 is a candleholder, there is a shape # 1421, that fits with it. Made around 1953. Value is about 15.00. The M-1522, which I think is actually 1523, is a ring bowl, same time frame. Value around 20.00 on that one. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing 189 green vase

Question:
I have a bottom marked green glazed "189 Red Wing Art Pottery" 5-1/2" vase. No chips or cracks but it does have some crazing. Is there a name for the pattern? I am estimating this dating from the mid to late 1930′s…??? What would the retail value be? Thanks for the help. Jon

Answer: Hi Jon

you are pretty close, early thirties. The crazing is normal for this glaze. There isn’t a name for the pattern. Value is around 80.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
