Question:
Hi, I purchased a tiny 1 1/2" 5 gallon Red Wing Jug, the person in the antique store told me that this was old and that it was a salesmen’s sample. I have never come across anything like this one and wondered if it was authentic, if it REALLY was a salesmen’s sample and the value of this piece. In the tiny logo it says Red Wing on the top line, Union Stoneware in the middle, and Co. under that and Red Wing, Minn on the bottom. It appears to have the ski oval design. After looking at this further, I’m afraid that it is only a reproduction. Your expertise and info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance, for your time. Shani
Answer: Shani, your mini 5 gallon jug is a reproduction piece and has little to no value. A number of these mini jugs are produced for souvenirs each year. If you have one of the Red Wing Collectible books, it shows all the vintage mini’s that were manufactured and there is quite a difference in appearance. Al Kohlman
