Question:
hi my neighbor has a red wing pottery #10 crock but it has a funnl bottom it a hole in the middle. I what to know what is call and is it rare. i never saw one. Christopher

Answer: Christopher, these funnel crocks are called self drainers. Red Wing produced them for chemical, hardware companies and large dairies. They are not rare. I have seen them in sizes from 5 gallon to 60 gallons. Because they demand either a stand or another crock the same size to sit on, collectors are not jumping all over these pieces as they take up quite a bit of space to display. Value on a mint 10 gallon self drainer can range from $200 to $300. Al Kohlman
