Red Wing Stoneware Poster
Question:
I have an old Red Wing poster showing nearly 100 stoneware products. The chart measures 18" by 24". The heading is ‘Red Wing Stoneware and Soneware Specialties’. Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. Question:
Some Red Wing pieces have tiny black specs in the last coat of paint. The salt-glazed pieces have "salt specs" as the result of salt being thrown on them in the kiln. When restoring such pieces, how does one get the "black spec" and/or "salt specs" in the final coat of paint? Thank you very much. Jean

We have an incomplete set of Red Wing china. It includes 5 dinner plates, 7 salad plates, 7 cups, 8 saucers, salt and pepper shakers, a small cream pitcher, a similarly sized pitcher with two handles, and a tureen that is about 8" in diameter with a lid. A few pieces are chipped and a few are stained. Most, however, are in good condition. The complete set was a 1942 wedding gift. Can you provide us with an estimate of their value? Thanks. David

Removing rancid fats from stoneware
Question:
My crocks were used as butter and lard storage jars and are now ‘weeping’ rancid fats from their former lives. Any suggestions on how to clean them? So far, SOS pads take it off, but over time, the seepage begins and the dishwasher only brings on a new coat of new ‘ooze’. Any advice you can provided will be appreciated. Best Regards, LJ Stonebraker
