30 gallon Red Wing Crock
Question:
Hello, I’m hoping you might be able to help identify a crock that my fiance and her family recently inherited. I have attached a close up picture of the markings but have a wide angle shot if desired. From what I can tell, it is a 30 gallon Red Wing crock. I’m unsure of the exact measurements (but can obtain them if needed). It has the large blue 30 as well as the Red Wing (unsure of measurement again). Based on the oval stamps on your site, it appears this one uses the #8 oval, so it was manufactured in the ’30′s but prior to ’36. The stamp reads: RED WING UNION STONEWARE CO. RED WING MINN. There are several chips and there appears to be a small crack developing along the bottom. Please let me know what additional information you might need and thank you in advance! Victor

Gopher on a football
Question:
I came across a gopher on a football like the one on page 132 of the Red Wing Collectibles values updated 2008. It is about 2 1/2 inches tall and at it widest point about 3 inches the marking on the bottom is R. W. POTTERIES 1939 RED WING MINN. On the front it has a partial label that I can make out saying Rochester Minn. which I was not sure if the label is orginal or if some attached it. Is this a red wing piece and can someone tell me more about it? Thanks Cliff
Answer: Hi Cliff
it is a Red Wing item, I would guess the label is original. they were made for the Minnesota/Michigan football rivalry. Value should be somewhat close to what you have found in the book. thanks, steve n rose
Repair advice
Question:
It is very unfortunate that this Red Wing Union stoneware is severly damaged. My first question is recommendations for repair to the condition where the pieces don’t fall apart. The second question is the value if I tried to sell it. Thanks for your time and consideration James
Answer: James, The crock could be glued and used for decorative purposes. The value is minimal and would not be worth the cost of a professional repair. Jeff
