1/2 gallon brown top jug

Question:
I’d like to know more about a piece I own and it’s likely value. It’s a red wing 1/2 gallon jug with a brown top. It has the red wing stamp on the side opposite the finger hole. It has one small glaze "pop" on the side and a small, shallow chip on the shoulder and one on the bottom edge. Thanks

2 gallon salt glaze and 5 gallon red wing

Question:
Hello again, thanks for the answer on the 2 gal dbl p bottom signed crock, my question now is about markings. I’ve noticed on other 2 gal dble p crocks, the design seems bigger or at least covers more of the lower half, does this seemingly smaller design affect value? Also I have a 5 gal crock w/handles, the oval and the wing markings are a bit on the light side (although not as light as the glare in the photo makes it) and I realize that is less desirable but my real question is about the ’5′ it seems to be out of line with the lower markings… is this a mistake? does it influence the value one way or another? there also is a black mark to the left of the 5 that seems to be in the glaze (perfectly smooth and doesn’t come off) thanks again Al…

8 gallon butter churn with bee sting

Question:
I recently just purchased what I believe to be a Red Wing butter churn that stands about 2.5 feet tall. It has the number 8 written in a cobalt pattern with the classic bee sting pattern beneath it. It also has a large flower with a small bee that is circling the head of the flower. All of these designs are in cobalt and the piece itself has a slight hour glass shape to it. There is also a thin band/indent that goes around the upper third of the churn that was marked right into the piece. I’ve collected stoneware for quite a few years now and this piece is definitely old and not reproduction. Have you ever heard of or seen a pattern like this on a "bee sting" piece of stoneware? Any pricing ideas? Thanks

25 gallon crock value for insurance

Question:
Hi there!! We have just recently moved, and in that process, our movers poorly packed one of our red wing 25 gal crocks, and when we got to the new place it was in several peices. The insurance appraiser said that its only worth about $150. I didn’t think that sounded right, but as we got it as a gift and they are so rare to find these days, would you know what current day value is on a 25 gal medium wing crock? Our previous one was in mint condition, no cracks, or chips of any kind. Any information that you may have, would be so helpful! Thank you for taking the time to look into it. :) Katie Campbell

Follow up on salt glaze preserve jar

Question:
Dear Al, I was curious as to why you would consider this a preserve jar vs a butter churn? Could I send more pictures? Would you need one of the opening? I attached your previous response below. Thank you. 4 gallon salt glaze preserve jar Question: I picked up this churn at a flea market. Is it Red Wing, and from what time frame? And what would the approximate value be? It does have a small hairline near the top about 6" long on the upper left. Thank you Answer: Your salt glaze piece is not a Red Wing churn. I could be a Red Wing or a Western Preserve jar. I would really need to see more of this piece to say for sure. The time frame it was made in would be anywhere from the late 1860′s to the early 1890′s. The 6" hairline would hurt the value. The value would be in the area of $125 to $150 regardless of who manufactured your jar. Al Kohlman

Red Wing Refridgerator Jar

Question:
I have a small red wing refrigerator jar in great condition with no crack and one small chip on the underside. It is about 6 in in diameter and little over 3 in tall. I also collect sponge ware and I found a 6 sponge ware panel bowl, but the sponging is only in blue and white. What would these items sell for in todays market.

1 gallon stoneware jug, advertising G Martini Calumet Mich.

Question:
I bought a one gallon stoneware jug w/wooden bail and wooden or cork (not sure as it is aged) stopper still intact. There is black lettering inside a black outlined box which states G MARTINI CALUMET MICH. The top half of jug is brown crockery and bottom half is cream. I tried to find out some information about G Martini and the only thing I could find out was that they were liquor dealers in Calumet and that they used Red Wing pottery for advertising. I was wondering if my piece could be Red Wing as there are no markings or I am not sure what to look for. It is in excellent condition with the printing very clear. I will try to post a picture if that will help.
