Stoneware signage

Question:
Hello, I recently came across a framed chart of Red Wing Stoneware. It is approx. 23 3/4" tall and 15" wide. Says "Red Wing Stoneware and stoneware specialties" on top and "Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. Red Wing, Minnesota" on bottom. It has well over 100 pieces of different stoneware items. Everything from a christmas tree stand, jardiniers, coffee urn liners, pitchers, water coolers, self draining jars, koverware, spitoons, ewers and basins, and many more. Some I did not even know were made by red wing. Under each piece it has a figure #, name, a little info, and the sizes available. It is framed and there is a sticker on the front that say’s circa, 1931. It is on yellowed heavy paper stock and I see no dates. Just wondering if this is real or a reproduction, and if it was for a store display or salesman piece. If it is original can you give me a approx. value. Thank you so much for your time. Love your website. Thanks Dale.

Bob White Set

Question:
I have inherited red wing dinnerware from my grandmother and am interested in finding out the value as well as assistance in selling the whole lot, which I know consists of the following (there are other pieces I do not know what to label). 13 coffee cups 19 saucers 7 salad plates 14 dinner plates 13 bread plates 7 cause bowls 7 salad/soup bowls 1 relish dish 2 appetizer dishes 1 oil and vinegar set w/iron holder 1 tea jug 1 tall salt and pepper shaker 1 bob white salt and pepper set 1 tea pot 1 cookie jar sugar and milk holders bob white appetizer holder yes, some of them have hairline cracks and some have chips, but for the most part the lot is in very good condition. It has been stored in a cubbard for as long as I can remember and likely never used. My wife loves the pieces, but is afraid they are too delicate to use and we lack the storage space for it all. Any help you can provide is much appreciated. I have more group photos, but not individual shots.

3 Gallon, MN Stoneware birch leaf beehive jug

Question:
Hi, I am wondering if you have some idea what this jug may be worth. It is part of my father’s estate. It has a blue 3 near the top, and the oval label, which is almost 2.5 inches wide, reads: UNION STONEWARE CO. RED WING, MINN. There are two half-inch wide chips, one on the handle and one on the lip of the spout. Also, there are noticeable paint or glaze drippings running down the jug from the back starting at the handle and going around the left side to within a few inches of the blue leaves on the front. The bottom has no markings or designs, nor any glaze or paint. The jug is about 13.5“ high. Thank you. Mike

Red WIng 1284

Question:
I would like information on a vase I received recently as a gift. The outside is turquoise blue with a uniform cracked finish. The inside is a dark bronze/copper(?) smooth finish. It measures about 10.5" tall and 4" x 7.5" at the widest point. It has a leaf motif. I believe the words on the bottom read 1284 Red Wing USA. I’m told that the vase may have been purchased at the 1939 World’s Fair but I have no proof that this is true. Thanks for any details you can provide about this vase and its value.

Answer: Your vase was introduced in 1947, The glaze is crackle turquoise with bronze, Value is about $60-$65.

Red Wing 209, copy

Question:
Hi, I have had this terra cotta/redware? vase for years. It is an exact match for the Red Wing #209 vase as shown in Ray Reiss’s book 1, page 23, fig. #209, except this is 10 1/2" H. and unglazed. It is unmarked. Did Red Wing make red ware? I hope you or one of the members can shed some light on this piece. Thanks for any help, Don

Answer: We don’t know of any artware that Red Wing produced with the red clay, It is the same shape but almost an inch taller then what Red Wing listed in their catalogs. Company’s were notorious for swapping or copying each others molds. It would be our guess that it is not Red Wing.

Thanks SteveNRose

20 Gallon Red Wing Crock

Question:
Hi – I have a 20 gallon piece of Red Wing stoneware. I don’t have a picture, but will do my best to describe it. It is almost 21 inches high and about 19 inches across. It has a blue number 20 on it with the wing print beneath it, which is a rust/red color. Also, the oval manufacturer mark (from what I can tell from your information page) looks like the one that states it was made in the 1930′s. It has the original wood lid and the handles which are all in perfect shape. The piece itself is in great shape….no cracks, etc. I was just wondering about its worth/collectibility. Thank you so much – Theresa Morrow
