Van Briggle Lamp ” Daughter of the Flame”

Question:
Hello – I bought this lamp at an estate auction. It is not marked. Is it a Van Briggle? Becca

Answer: Hi Becca

Oh, yes, it is Van Briggle. We call her the daughter of the flame. Did it come with a butterfly shade? Think this is the first Van Briggle question we have had. It’s hard to tell how old it is, without a pic of the bottom. Still a nice lamp, value is around 300.00 ro so. thanks, steve n rose (oh, look on the back of the base, there will probably be the AA van briggle mark there.)

Scotty dog ash receiver or bud vase 877

Question:
I own a vintage white toothbrush holder with "#877 RED WING" printed on the bottom. The holder is a figure of a Scotty terrier sitting up on his hind legs with mouth wide open [for the toothbrushes]. When I received this as a gift, I was also given a business card for an antique shop in Bismarck, ND with the handwritten comment on the back: Mary Divine, granddaughter of William Henry Harrison." ~~ The piece is in excellent condition, no cracks or chips…and I want to sell it. I have had no luck with trying to verify the provenance but wonder if you folks can help. I was given the toothbrush holder and several other Scotty dog figures when I adopted a white West Highland terrier 16 years ago. All the figures are white (not black)– and the gifter was a friend from work… Can you help? Sorry no photo yet — I am buying a digital camera shortly… Dori

Answer: Hi Dori

Your Scotty Dog is actually a bud vase, but I can see it being used as a toothbrush holder as well. They date to around 1939. Can’t help you with the provenance, but they usually sell in the 175-200 dollar range. thanks, steve n rose

6 and 2 gallon albany slip crocks

Question:
I’ve attached pictures of two crocks, a six gallon and two gallon – both in what appears to be an Albany slip glaze with similar markings. The numbers on the side appear to be brushed on or wiped on with a finger. The dimensions are as follows: Six gallon – 14” tall, 1 ¼” rim. At the rim – 12 ½” outside dia, 11” inside dia. Slight taper just below the rim. Purchased in Dyersville, Iowa Two gallon -10” tall, 10” outside dia, 1 1/4” rim. Purchased in Galena, Illinois I only show the bottom of the six gallon, the two gallon is similar. There are no markings other than the “6” and the “2”. Any assistance you could provide to narrow down the possible manufacturers or a time frame would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Nanci
