Question:
I own a vintage white toothbrush holder with "#877 RED WING" printed on the bottom. The holder is a figure of a Scotty terrier sitting up on his hind legs with mouth wide open [for the toothbrushes]. When I received this as a gift, I was also given a business card for an antique shop in Bismarck, ND with the handwritten comment on the back: Mary Divine, granddaughter of William Henry Harrison." ~~ The piece is in excellent condition, no cracks or chips…and I want to sell it. I have had no luck with trying to verify the provenance but wonder if you folks can help. I was given the toothbrush holder and several other Scotty dog figures when I adopted a white West Highland terrier 16 years ago. All the figures are white (not black)– and the gifter was a friend from work… Can you help? Sorry no photo yet — I am buying a digital camera shortly… Dori
Answer: Hi Dori
Your Scotty Dog is actually a bud vase, but I can see it being used as a toothbrush holder as well. They date to around 1939. Can’t help you with the provenance, but they usually sell in the 175-200 dollar range. thanks, steve n rose
