Brittany pattern pitcher

Question:
I have a 9" pitcher in a floral pattern with a faint redwing wing mark on the bottom. The pitcher is white with a narrow band of blue on the top with a broader band of yellow beneath. The main decoration appears to be a large yellow rose surrounded by blue flowers and green leaves. The opposite side of the pitcher has two yellow flowers surrounded by leaves and three blue flowers surrounded by leaves. Can you help with a pattern name and price? Rick

Answer: Rick:  Your pitcher is from a pattern called Brittany, one of the four patterns in the Provincial 1941 line.  It was designed by Charles Murphy and was one of the first hand painted dinnerware lines.  As you might guess, it was introduced in 1941 and discontinued in 1950.   Many of the items are crazed and stained and that greatly reduces the value.  You did not comment on the condition so I can’t really give you an accurate value.  However, in pristine condition, it should be worth $50-80.  It is more likely to be worth somewhat less.

question from: javaandjazz@yahoo.com

Question:
HI, Any chance this art pottery bottle is red wing? I’m at my wits end trying to figure this out. It’s about 5" at the widest point by about 9" tall. There is a mark on the bottom of a shield with maybe a bird(?) in the center of it. I will submit a second photo of that mark. Thanks so much, Richie
