Basket weave bowl, 916

Question:
I have this brown bowl that I have been able to find nothing on. It has the design of a basket weave and it has a strange shape, almost like someone grabbed the top of it and squeezed. There are some definite flaws on it that looks as though something happened during the firing process. Almost like the bowl touched the inside wall of the kiln. It measures 8x6x4.5. The bottom says Red Wing U.S.A 916. Can you tell me about this piece, along with the value? Thanks so much! Melody

Answer: Hi Melody

this shape does have a pinched in top, that’s normal. It’s from 1965. Value is around 25.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing 418 console bowl, centerpiece B- 2503 Belle Kogan’s Deluxe line

Question:
the center piece of this is separate from the bottom. they are not attached. I am wondering if they belong together. I bought them together. the bottom dish is 12.5" x 9.25". It has applied leaves on each end for decoration. It is marked Red Wing USA #418. The center piece is 9.75" tall. It has a gold sticker on it that says Red Wing Art Pottery. Do you have an estimate of what they would be worth. Any help is appreciated. Thank you, Diane

Answer: Hi Diane

they are from the same timeframe, same glaze, but they aren’t a match. The centerpiece is from Kogan’s Deluxe line, shape # B2503, there are different console bowls that match this item. The 418 is a console bowl, but for a different group. Value for both is around 125.00. thanks, steve n rose

Ash Receiver/Bud vases colors

Question:
Hi Steve & Rose, I read through all 1300 questions to make sure this question hasn’t been asked before….What color glazes do the ash receivers/bud vases appear? I have white/cream, blue, yellow, and green. I’ve also seen red and saw that one of your readers had a pink one. Is that it – six colors in all? Thanks for your forum! I really appreciate that you take the time to do this. You’ve helped me out in the past and I always value your opinion! Denise

Answer: Hi Denise

you’ve been busy! I do know they were done in copper, besides the colors you mentioned. I’m not sure, this was when they were still using some Rumrill glaze colors, and making some new ones as well. there are 8 glazes listed in 1940, but a whole lot more than that in 1938, and in 1941. I would guess there are a few other colors out there. good question, hope this helps, thanks, steve n rose

Question:
I just purchased a lovely Red Wing vase at a yard sale for $3. It is solid black, 3-footed, 10" tall, with a 4 1/4" diameter opening at the top. It has a slightly larger diameter of its lower half. I’m a garden clubber, and buy vases everywhere I go, and love this vase’s lines. It is clearly marked "RED WING USA M-1497" on the bottom. I can’t provide a photo today, but will do so when I get home, if you need it. Thank you for any info you can provide about my new vase! It’s really lovely! Elizabeth

Answer: Elizabeth

It’s a design by Charles Murphy, from 1955. There are several other forms with this group that have the same type style. Value is around 35.00 or so. nice find! thanks, steve n rose
