Brushware planter and pedestal
Question:
I have what looks like a planter on pedestal that belonged to my Grandmother – who died in 1966. Pedestal is 24" high and 10.5" wide at base ∧ top. The planter measures 10.5" high and open circumference top of 12". Both are marked Red Wing – pictures included. What can you tell me about the pieces and their value.
Answer: I like these big pieces of brushware, early art pottery from Red Wing. circa early 30′s. The pedestal has another use as well, it being a floor vase. Shape #160. As the pair they are listed as shape #161. Nice items. I would value the set at around $1,000.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose. Nice picture!

Red Wing 1388
Question:
I was just presented with an oak leaf (I think)serving dish with 1388 Red Wing USA on the back. It measures 14"l X 9"w 1"c, and is flat grey on the inside and a shiny chartreuse green on the outside. It’s in excellent condition, except for the 3 little marks on the back that held the piece when it was glazed and fired. What can you tell me about it? Does the pattern have a name? Are there any other matching pieces? Value? Gosh, I love the Internet!!! Donna Hirsch
Answer: Hi Donna, your bowl dates from 1949. There aren’t any matching pieces for it, just part of the general art pottery lines. The glaze is chartreuse lined with grey. Value is only around 20.00 or so. There are many other shapes with the same glaze, though. thanks, steve n rose

I’ve read that 4 gallon jugs are desirable, but is this a "lazy eight with target & tail," or do those squiggly loops indicate a "tornado?" Has a few turkey droppings and in absolutely mint condition. Not even a single chip. Thanks.
