North Star 8 gallon salt glaze

Question:
I have an 8" salt glaze cover that I think is North Star. The knob is exactly like the one on the shard shown on page 20 in "A Guide to Red Wing Markings" by David Newkirk (1986). The underside is Albany Slip. It has a small chip on the rim that hardly shows from the top and a couple on the underside. I would like to get any information you might have on this piece and approximate value. Thank you, Dayton

Lexington Rose pattern

Question:
Please identify the pattern in the attached photo. The bottom of the plate is stamped with the words, "Redwing Pottery" and "Hand Painted", while the cup is stamped "May 7 1948". The shape is "concord" and the colors are light to dark pink for the rose and varying shades of green for the leaves very much like "Blossom Time". The cup has a rose on the inside and the outside. I have several plates, saucers, cups and one oval serving platter. The platter is in very good shape while the plates and cups have varying amounts of crazing. Thank you for your help.

North Star Pitcher with grape design

Question:
I have a beautiful, blue shaded, with a grape design, pitcher. It is blue on the outside and sort of gray or maybe a whitish color on the inside and on the bottom. It also has a raised star on the bottom. It doesn’t seem to fit any of the categories exactly. I’ve read up and the best I can do is early 1900. Someone told me it was North Star because of the raised star on the bottom. But, another said it was from Ohio Pottery because North Stars star wasn’t raised. Thnaks so much, Sharon

Gopher on a stump

Question:
I found a piece of Red Wing pottery while in the process of gutting my bathroom for a remodel. Description. Its a small (I would say toothpick holder could be its function?) It is all Brown, 3" x 3" Log that lays flat with a branch coming off the top of it (this is the piece that has the hole…for whatever it is suppose to be used as) There is a chipmunk or maybe striped gopher "crawling" up the side of the log. Stamped on the bottom with Red Wing and R.W. Pottery Very fun find, considering I collect Red Wing Vases!

Answer: That is a nice surprise, hope everyone doesn’t start tearing out the walls now…..

It’s part of the Minnesota/Michigan rivalry. there are two, one a gopher, one a badger. Value is around 200.00. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing Scenic Vase with Mountain Lions

Question:
I have an old 8" Redwing Nokomis 8" Scenic Vase w/Mountain Lions and am interested in any history on it and approx auction/retail value. It has a blue stamp on the base w/Redwing Union Stoneware Co Redwing Minn. The vase has a 4" interior vertical hairline which I realize may decrease the value. I’m attemting to send a picture along to you-novice as I am! Thanks, I appreciate any help you can give ! Yvonne

Answer: Hi Yvonne, nice pic, thanks. This is shape #164S, the smaller of two sizes. We call it the lion vase, circa 1931. The glaze is combination green or grey, and tan. Easily confused with the Nokomis glaze. Value with the line, around 100.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
