Question:
Please identify the pattern in the attached photo. The bottom of the plate is stamped with the words, "Redwing Pottery" and "Hand Painted", while the cup is stamped "May 7 1948". The shape is "concord" and the colors are light to dark pink for the rose and varying shades of green for the leaves very much like "Blossom Time". The cup has a rose on the inside and the outside. I have several plates, saucers, cups and one oval serving platter. The platter is in very good shape while the plates and cups have varying amounts of crazing. Thank you for your help.
Answer:
The official name of this pattern is Lexington. It is commonly called Lexington Rose. Lexington was one of two Concord patterns introduced in 1941. It was made until 1955, so it had a long production run. It is fairly common to find dates stamped into the clay on the bottom of pieces made during this era, particularly on the cups.
It is easy to confuse the Lexington and Blossom Time patterns. Both feature red flowers and green leaves, and both were made in the Concord shape. Lexington has larger flowers that are obviously roses and no branches, while Blossom Time has more and smaller flowers connected by branches.
