Red Wing Shape 1383, console bowl
Question:
This piece came with a family set of "Capistrano" dishes, but it doesn’t in any way match that pattern. I can only assume from my research that its Belle Kogan, maybe Tropicana only because of the form & colors. The bottom is a dark green. It is embossed "Red Wing Pottery U.S.A." but is faint. Dimensions at the corners are 13-1/2" x 8-1/2".
Hello
this is shape #1383, from around 1954. It could be a Kogan shape, but it sin’t attributed to her having designed it. There are a pair of candleholders that match this console bowl. Value is around 25.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
1 gallon Red Wing crock lid
Question:
Al, thanks for the answer to my 1 gallon crock question recently. Just happens now that I have come across a 1 gallon lid for sale. Wondering if you can confirm that this is a Redwing lid. It sure looks like it, but the petals appear to have have an odd shape to me, more of a point on the outside edge. As you may be able to see, it has a chip on the back of the button handle and 2 chips underneath on the outside of the lip. Could you tell me what a fair price/worth for this would be? Also, were button lids made prior to the flat handle lids, or were both made during the same year. Thanks again for your time. Darrell

Red Wing ashtray
Question:
My mother had a mulberry wing ashtray that has no numbers on it. It is 7 1/2" long. It is very graceful, the widest part being 3 3/4" and the lower curve of the wing 2". I have seen photos of others that appear to be fatter with a less elegant curve to the wing. It has Red Wing Pottery arched on the base USA in the center and Red Wing Minnesota curved below. The feathers are beautifully molded. When did they begin making the wing ashtrays and could this be a trial piece since it has no numbers? Thank you! Barbara
Answer: Hi Barbara
the "wing" ashtrays were designed in 1953. I don’t think any had a design number. They came in 4 different colors, and sell for around 50.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
Red Wing 1306 console bowl
Question:
Hello I found it in a friends barn, I think it was used as a flower vase, I have used it as a candle holder and unfortunately the candles have stained the bottom, can the stains be removed safely? It measures 12 inches from one rounded corner stright across to the other corner, if you were to measure digagonal its 15 inches across, it’s 2 1/4 inches tall. It is a turquoise glaze on the outside and inside is antique white/cream. It is like a rounded square with the sides folded inwards, it has the age crackle inside along with the candle stain, and there is what looks like a crack on the inside and outside, but you can’t feel it. On the bottom under the glaze is the number 1306 under the number is the name RED WING and under that is USA. Thank you for any information you can give me. Thank you Nadine
Answer: Hello Nadine
this is actually a console bowl, from around 1947. It is quite durable, it can be scrubbed, and some stains can be removed with hydrogen peroxide, like what’s used by beauty salons. Value is around 20.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
