Question:
While cleaning out a relative’s home, we ran across a complete set of Capistrano service for four: plates, cup, saucers. Also, extra pieces for the same pattern: 4 small plates, a small pitcher, and a salt and pepper set. The dishes are still in the original box, and we are quite certain that they have never been used. We are interested in their approximate value, and any information that you can provide for us would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Marilyn Snider P.S. We are not interested in selling, as we plan to pass the dishes on to our recently married grandson and wife. Marilyn

Hairline Repair
Question:
I am not seeking value of the current Redwing piece that I have just inherited. I am looking for information regarding a fine crack that can be seen on both sides of the crock. I was wondering if there is anything recommended to seal the crack so that it does not get any bigger. We will not be using it for sauerkraut making anymore. I would appreciate any insight to mending/preventing any further damage to the current crack. Thanks in advance for your information. Dana
Answer: Dana, if the crock is together, I like to use Liquid Super glue (not the gel). Get as much of the super glue you can in the crack and apply a tourniquet. Leave set for 24 hours. After 24 hours, remove the tourniquet and use a razor blade scrapper to remove any excess super glue. Also, never wipe any of the super glue off while it is wet, or it will leave a white residue that is a bear to get off. Just let it run and dry. That razor blade scraper will remove it fairly easy. Good luck. Al Kohlman

Question:
I have not seen any Red Wing Crocks that are banded. A friend of mine has one with wire/wood handles. What would be the mfg. date and does the band increase its value? Also, were there any whiskey jugs made by Red Wing that were unmarked?

Ballerina balancing on one foot figurine
Question:
A friend of mine has a Red Wing art ware piece. I have researched it on the web and have had so luck. It is antique white matte glaze. There is a figure of a ballerina with a long skirt, balancing on one foot with the other extended up into the air. There is a frog base under the dancer. This piece sits in a vase bowl of matching glaze. It is eleiptical in shape and several of the edges curl inward. Red Wing is on the bottom of the bowl piece. I have seen the same type of frog vase style with the deer in the center and the incised brown on the carving of the turned outward edges of the bowl. This piece has no contrasting glaze on it. Sorry I do not have a picture to show you. Thank you, Kathy
Answer: Hi Kathy
I think you have the console bowl for the deer frog, but I don’t recognize the figural form you speak of. It could be another companies, I’m nto sure. A pic would be most helpful if you could get me one. thanks, steve n rose
Oriental Dairy 5 lb cottage cheese crock with Star of David symbols
Question:
Appears to be Red Wing crock but not marked as such. Oriental Dairy 5 lb cottage cheese crock with Star of David symbols. 7" dia X 6" high. 1/2" dia glaze chip on back rim. Oriental Dairy was in Minneapolis, don’t know any more about the dairy. What is rarity of this marking? Noting the Stars of David, could the dairy have been Kosher? Approx. value? Thanks. Hugh
