8 teacups- cowboy on fence and cactus; no mark

8 saucers- cowboy on fence and cactus; number 231 butter top only- cowboy on fence and cactus; no mark cream pitcher- cowboy bull fighting; no mark sugar dish with lid- cowboy heating cattle prods in fire; engraved USA salt and pepper shakers- one has cowboy with frying pan and other is cowboy in chaps; no mark gravy boat with lid- cowboy on fence; engraved red wing USA

8 small dinner plates- Cowboy, fire and cattle prods and cactus; number 319

8 large dinner plates- 3 cowboys and a bull; maroon wing shaped stamp: Red Wing hand painted USA; number 357

Oomph Bakeware casserole

Question:
I have what looks like a small covered crock casserole that is oval in shape…it is brown with a turquoise color on the lip of the dish, inside the dish and the inside of the lid. It is marked redwing on the bottom. I would like to sell this but need a ‘rough’ idea of what it’s worth. It is not in perfect condition…has two small chips inside the edge of the lid (can’t be seen from the outside) and a hairline crack on the inside of the dish part on the side. It measures 10" from the outside edge of the lip of the dish to the outside of the other side…the bottom of the dish is 7 x 5.5" and the depth is 3.5" measured on the outside. I bought this at an antique store years ago because I just liked the size, shape and colors. My camera is ‘misplaced’ at this time (grandkids!) or I would try to send a picture. Thank you for your time. Janet

Answer: Janet:  Your item is from the Bakeware line called “Oomph” by most collectors because a promotional brochure featured the slogan “Red Wing Puts the ‘OOMPH’ into Earthenware”.  It was a full line of dinnerware and is heavy when compared to other dinnerware.  The color scheme is similar to Village Green but Oomph has the green extending over the top  and partway down the side of the pieces while Village Green has the green confined to the inside of the pieces.  It was introduced in 1943 and produced until sometime in the mid 1940s.  I inherited Oomph items from 2 of my aunts so I have a few pieces and remember eating many meals using these dishes.  The Coffee Mug is my favorite.   You have the medium sized Shallow Casserole.  Oomph is not particularly in demand so if it were in perfect condition it might bring $30-35.  With the damage you describe to both the top and bottom, you might get $5 or so for it.  Sorry I don’t have better news for you.

Brittany pattern pitcher

Question:
I have a 9" pitcher in a floral pattern with a faint redwing wing mark on the bottom. The pitcher is white with a narrow band of blue on the top with a broader band of yellow beneath. The main decoration appears to be a large yellow rose surrounded by blue flowers and green leaves. The opposite side of the pitcher has two yellow flowers surrounded by leaves and three blue flowers surrounded by leaves. Can you help with a pattern name and price? Rick

Answer: Rick:  Your pitcher is from a pattern called Brittany, one of the four patterns in the Provincial 1941 line.  It was designed by Charles Murphy and was one of the first hand painted dinnerware lines.  As you might guess, it was introduced in 1941 and discontinued in 1950.   Many of the items are crazed and stained and that greatly reduces the value.  You did not comment on the condition so I can’t really give you an accurate value.  However, in pristine condition, it should be worth $50-80.  It is more likely to be worth somewhat less.
