Green Elephant planter 236D

Question:
We found a dark green elephant, 236D, like the ones in the attached photos. We have been unable to find anything in Ray Reiss’ books. Could you give us an estimate of its value. It is in perfect condition – no dings, scratches, etc. Some age crazing.

Answer: that picture looks strangely familiar…… there were 4 different sizes of this elephant, with the D being the largest. they were done in the early thirties. None are marked. Most are done in the yellow and green glazes, which does have some crazing to it. Value should be around 300.00+

6 gallon elephant ear crock

Question:
Hi Al, I have recently acquired a 6 gallon Red Wing Elephant Ear crock. It’s in great condition. It does have two small dings or gouges on the outside. They are about 1 inch long but are not very deep. They are off two the side and not noticeable when the crock is displayed. The top rim has a small ¼ inch shallow chip. Both handles are chip free which I find hard to come by. It has the 2 ½ inch “Union” oval. Can you tell me the production date and the approximate value. Thanks, Chris Hetrick

question from: chetrick@cox.net

Question:
Hi Al,
I have recently acquired a 2 gallon Red Wing birch leaf crock. It does not have an oval. I have read that this is uncommon. Is it? The crock does have two very small chips on the outside bottom edge. It also had a very small crack on the outside of the upper rim. The 2 and the birch leafs are in black.

Can you tell me the production date and the approximate value? Does the lack of the oval increase its value?

Thanks,
Chris Hetrick

5 gallon Red Wing Watercooler with lid

Question:
Hi Al. I have recently acquired a 5 gallon Red Wing water cooler. It looks beautiful but unfortunately has a crack on the inside bottom edge. The crack barely shows on the outside. It also has a very small and barely noticeable hairline on the outside. No chips anywhere that I can see. The oval is 1 ¾ wide and say Red Wing Potteries. The wing is the smaller 2 ¼ size. It does have the original spigot that appears functional. It came with a lid, but it’s not the standard water cooler lid and I don’t believe it’s a Red Wing. The lid does have two hairline cracks that run from the edge about 3 inches toward the center. Can you tell me the date of production and the approximate value of the water cooler? And what about the lid? Thanks, Chris H.

P.S. I have a couple of crocks I will be emailing you on. Thanks for the help!

I have a blue tulip shaped piece that I assume is a vase. It does have Red Wing on the bottom. It is approximately 6" high, excellent condition, no chips or cracks. I would like to know the value. I do not have a picture available at this time. Thank you

Answer: I’m drawing a blank, a pic or a number would do me wonders. You may send them to the RWCS office at director@redwingcollectors.org.  thanks, steve n rose

5 gallon jug with flower decoration, salt glaze

Question:
Is this 5 gallon jug a Red Wing? If so, what is the design called and what type of value might it have? Condition is excellent with no cracks. There are two small chips on the rim, a chip near the middle that looks like it was cut out of the clay before firing, a couple of dark brown splatters. It also has an "A" incised near the bottom on one side. It measures 20" tall. I have more pictures but could only add one. Thanks so much!
