Bird decorate piece

Question:
I have this vase that I acquired from my grandmother and don’t know how to go about finding out where it came from. It is glazed and seems to be made out of something other than the traditional clay, more the density of some kind of concrete. It is 3-sided and has a different colored painted bird on each side. There is some kind of marking on the bottom, but can’t make them out. Jo Lynn

Answer: Hi Jo Lynn

I’m not sure what your vase is. It does look to be handmade. The american art pottery association has a website, perhaps they could help you. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing Pottery Flower Frog, shape 1046

Question:
I recently inherited a Red Wing Pottery Flower Frog from my grandmother who died at age 102. The card in the box with it dates it a a wedding anniversary gift in 1941. I found a photo of it in a red wing pottery book and they call it Three Feathers. I wanted to know what the color is called and is it glazed or painted. I don’t think the photo does justice on the color, I would say it is more of a light purple blue. Also any other information you might have about it would be appreciated. Laura

Answer: Hi Laura

Your timeframe is correct, 1940/41. It’s shape # 1046, and it looks like the correct bowl to go with it. Think the glaze is matt blue. Value for set is around 100.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
