Blue Thing

Question:
We have [had] an 8" diameter 6-1/2" high clay pot, almost spherical with a 2-1/2" to 3" mouth, that looks almost Santa Clara Pueblo in its burnished uniform black finish (no glaze). It has circular spoked-spiral carvings over the entire surface; different from Santa Clara in that the carvings completely perforate the pot. The only info from the seller is that it "came from ‘out west’". We’d like to identify and replace if possible (cat broke it). Please see pictures.

Answer: hello

interesting form, to be sure, but we have no knowledge on this one. sorry we can’t be of assistance. thanks, steve n rose

Belle Kogan 100 line

Question:
Hello! I’m in charge of centerpieces for a Walleye Dinner for Minnesotans in Wash.DC. I’ve collected 20 Red Wing Art Pottery Vases and Planters for table decorations and want to educate our diners about Minnesota art. My research says I have several of the "Belle Kogan 100," but I can’t find a comprehensive list of what those 100 are. Is there a list of what comprises the Belle Kogan 100? Is there a catalog of all the numbers aligned to year of production, designer, etc.? Thank you! Kierstin

Answer: Hi Kierstin

Kogan’s 100 line date to 1938, with shape #’s 744 thru 870. Some newer shapes have used some of these numbers over, so glaze colors would be the big clue. A lot of them would be using the matte glaze Rum Rill colors, with a few new ones, copper was a popular one. hope this helps, thanks, steve n rose
