B2009 Belle Kogan

Question:
I recently bought a piece of pottery from a local antiques store. I bought it because I liked it. I really stood out. It’s an art deco piece, and I do know that it a Redwing piece and am assuming that’s it’s a Belle Kogan piece. It’s marked B2009 Redwing USA B Kogan. It’s in perfect condition: It’s a dark bronze glaze on the outside and a canary yellow on the inside – with a touch of green blended in it. It is a classic motif of an embossed bird of paradise with a reverse image of three leaves (or seed pods – don’t recognize them. The design is inside an oval) Just curious about it’s value, history etc. Thanks much. I’m not a member but I think that I’ve caught a bug.

Asnwer: welcome to the club! It is a Kogan piece, part of the Tropicana line, 1950. Mica Bronze is the glaze color. think the design is a bird of paradise. Value is around 85.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing 688

Question:
WE live on a ranch in Eastern Oregon and have quite a few interesting items we are looking up after going through one of the older farm houses on the ranch. We found the following vase: Redwing #889 if red one way or if you red it the other way it is #688. I think it is the 688 because of the period after the last 8 in 688. White – 13 inches tall cast in the likeness of a flower opening from the sheath.

Answer: Hi, this is a 688, circa 1938-39, when the Rumrill artware was being discontinued. Nice size, it has a value of about 75.00 or so. Keep looking, you may be surprised at what you will find! thanks, steve n rose
