Red Wing M1440

Question:
My friend asked if I could use my computer to get her some information on a vase she just purchased for a few dollars at a 2nd hand store. I do not have a picture, but it very clearly reads "Red Wing USA M-1440" on the bottom. It stands about 6 1/8" tall at its highest point. The opening is scalloped/wavy and is approximately 5 1/2" long x 2" wide. The bottom 2" of the vase appear to be footed with a leaf and/or petal detail. From what I’ve read on this site today, I believe the glaze is chartreuse lined with grey and the designer is Charles Murphy. Can you tell me the year this vase was made, and the cost value today if in good condition? Any other info on this piece is welcome. Thanks ~ Josie

Answer: Hi Josie, It was designed in 1954, and you are right, designed by Murphy. Value is around 25.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose

Hamm’s Bear Bank

Question:
The attached photo is of a Hamm’s Bear bank, which was given to me by Richard Gillmer, back in 1967 and I have had it ever since. I’m looking for more information on it, like how many were made, what is it worth, and also how I can contact Carol Betcher who was recently featured in a Hamm’s newsletter. My mother is Joy Nygaard, who was Richard’s secretary for many years. I also worked at the pottery in the mid 60′s and the salesroom later on. Thx, Cary

Answer: Hi Cary, quite the family history!! They sell for around 500 or so, althought this one may be a second, or an oddball. the red glaze isn’t finished across the Hamm’s. I don’t know of any production numbers on these, other than they are quite collectible. I would contact the society, they have more contact information that I do. thanks, steve n rose
