Charles Murphy Engobe figure 1144

Question:
I have a Charles Murphy engobe figure. It’s the one on Ray Reiss 2nd book. It has some damage to the lyre, other than that there are no other chips, cracks, repairs or crazing. How much is this figurine worth and what number engobe is it? I would appreciate any info. Also, should I have this professionally repaired? Many thanks, Susan

Answer: It’s shape 1144, from around 1942. It is a nice item, as is maybe 300.00. Repaired I would think would bring twice that. These are fairly scarce, and collectors like them. thanks, steve n rose

Green Elephant planter 236D

Question:
We found a dark green elephant, 236D, like the ones in the attached photos. We have been unable to find anything in Ray Reiss’ books. Could you give us an estimate of its value. It is in perfect condition – no dings, scratches, etc. Some age crazing.

Answer: that picture looks strangely familiar…… there were 4 different sizes of this elephant, with the D being the largest. they were done in the early thirties. None are marked. Most are done in the yellow and green glazes, which does have some crazing to it. Value should be around 300.00+
