Question:
Hi, I have a 6 gallon salt glazed crock that I bought from a dealer for $95. I would like to know if it is a Red Wing crock as I have always wanted one. It has 3 very small shallow chips on the inside top ring that are less than a half of a dime (in the top of the brown) and one small shallow chip on the outside that was painted over (by looks like the manuf.). No cracks & otherwise looks perfect. The dealer had said it was RW and that the lady he bought it from inhereted it. Please let me know the approx value and anything else you can tell me about the manuf. etc. Thanks for providing this great service! Kathy

Answer: Kathy, your 6 gallon Salt Glazed crock with the lazy 8 and targeted mark is not Red Wing. I am quite sure that it was manufactured in Ohio. I have had a number of pieces from Ohio and they all have the gallon-age number running (the slip trail) directly into the decoration. Still a good piece. I would think the value would be between $150 & $175. Al Kohlman
