Question:
I am pretty new at collecting Red Wing, (some of my collection were gifts/hand me downs from family), so this is probably an extremely basic question but I am hoping you can help me out…or at least give me an idea of a good resource. What is the difference between the sizes of the red ‘Red Wing’ logo? I have a couple of crocks and a butter churn with a larger wing and a couple of crocks with a smaller wing. Is this due to where it was made, or time in Red Wing Pottery history? Does it change the value at all? (though I collect for the love of the pottery, not so much for the price value) Thank you for your time, Lynn

Question:
I have a pair of bookends finished with a dark brown glaze. On one bookend is a seated Indian Chief and on the other a seated Indian woman. "Red Wing" is written into a small area beneath the woman. There are numerous indentions into the clay which look like a sharpened pencil was inserted– I’m guessing it was to keep the clay from exploding during firing due to excess thickness. Any idea whether these are made by Red Wing??? They are rather "arts and crafts" looking. Frank
Answer: Hi Frank
hard to say for sure, it’s not a listed factory item. some items were made at the factory by workers that we call lunch hour pieces, not a catalog piece. If the clay is red, it could be a sewer tile item as well. A pic would be most helpful, if you can do that. thanks, steve n rose

Question:
I have an 8 gallon crock that belonged to my grandmother. The unusual thing about this piece is there is no Red Wing stamp on it. Does that make it more valuable? The crock is in good condition with a chip on the bottom and a borderline crack. Steve

Question:
This cookie jar has been in my family for some time. The first I remember it was in my aunt’s kitchen (Chicago area)in the 50s; however, she may have acquired it earlier in New Orleans. I have researched it and cannot find anything like it. It looks similar to a Red Wing dutch girl jar, but it has no markings on the bottom. Approx 111/2in tall, the color is bright. There is some grazing inside bottom; none in the top. 3 small rub marks one in back, bottom edge of skirt; one in front, bottom edge of skirt; one at very tip of hat. Can you help me identify it? Darleen
