Cowboy and Cowgril, light brown glaze, B1415 and B1414, Belle Kogan designer

Question:
I have two statues, one a cowboy and one a cowgirl with sort of a light brown glaze. The coyboy is marked Red Wing USA, B 1415. The cowgirl is marked Red Wing USA, B 1414. She is in perfect condition but the cowboy has been broken and repaired. Could you please tell me anything about these? I know nothing about Red Wing except the name…other than the repaired piece is greatly reduced in value. Thank you, Lana Robertson

Answer: Hi Lana

Your figurines were designed by Belle Kogan, in 1952. The solid glazed ones, like you have are worth around 100.00 each, in perfect condition. so half that or less for the broken one. They are meant to be a pair. thanks, steve n rose

Art Pottery: 1160, 426, 861, 1054, 259, and 863

Question:
I have some artware pieces I have picked up at auctions and antique stores over the years. I would like to know the value and from what line they are from. I am attaching a picture and the numbers and sizes are as follows: 1160? 23 in glad vase, 426 plate, 861 71/4, 863 and 1054? 8 in and the swan 259? is 7 in. The blue sponge 863 has a very small white spot on the lip but it doesn’t appear to be a chip just where the paint didn’t cover. Thank you very much for your time. I love Redwing and grew up near there. Kathy S

Answer: Hi Kathy

the 861 and 863 are from around 1939, part of Kogan’s 100 line. Value around 70.00 each. The 259 swan is from the 40′s, value around 45.00. The 426 bowl is from 1953, value around 20.00. the 1160, from 1942, value around 45.00. The 1054, value is around 25.00. think I go tthem all, thanks, steve n rose

3 gallon elephant ear crock

Question:
I just purchased this #3 Minnesota stoneware oval, bottom marked, and very blue piece. The other outstanding feature is that one of the workers scribed some multiplication problem in the wet clay, which was glazed over. I was wondering what this might be worth, since the Minnesota oval is uncommon. The crock is in perfect condition, and the numbers scribed on do photograph. I hope its worth more than I paid for it….. Thanks Craig

Question:
Hi, this bowl was handed down to us several years ago. It was originally bought by my wife’s mother or grandmother, but we don’t really know when. It’s in perfect condition, the base is about 5" diameter, and it has a 12" diameter at the tips of the 16 spikes. The number under the base is M-1482. We’re interested in anything you can tell us about it. Thanks! Steve

Answer: Hello

Charles Murphy designed this piece, along with several others with this spiked style, in 1955. the glaze looks to be a fleck tan. Value is around 65.00, it’s hard to find these with all the points intact. thanks, steve n rose
