Red Wing Milk Pan

Question:
I have a salt glazed sroneware mixing bowl marked with an incised, but weak "RWSC" which I hope is a Red Wing piece, pre 1906. It is 12 inches in diameter, in very good to excellent condition. Twelve inches in diameter. Very good glaze. Just 2 chips in the wide band, one looks to be a mfg blemish, one is later. All gray. Excellent top ring. More pics available if needed. I plan to sell in a nice shop with lots of tourist trade, and am in no hurry to sell. Thanks for any assistance in verifying maker and establishing value. Gloria

Answer: The 1235 was made in 1946, so you are pretty close. It has a value of around 20.00 or so with the chip. The glaze is probably luster burgandy. thanks, steve n rose

Question:
Dear People: Just a follow-up, sorry. I had submitted a request for info a while ago re a small pitcher, with irregular, earth tone glazes. It was almost similar to a "raku" effect. Since there are no dates on the ‘answers’, (and I’ve already looked at everything too), I wasn’t sure what the back-log is, or how patient to be. Thanks again for your efforts, and this wonderful site!! cheers, wayne

What is the difference between the vintage stoneware and the current stonewares?

The Red Wing Potteries the operated from the late 1800′s until 1967 when the pottery closed had 11 different ovals during their production history. These vintage Red Wing Stoneware pieces will either have the word "Union" or "Potteries" in their ovals. Without one of these two words, the stoneware piece is most likely a reproduction.

Below are some examples of the new potteries in Red Wing markings and logos.
