Native American Portrait Artware

Question:
Is this a Red Wing piece? Can you tell me anything about? I have a picture of the mark on the bottom, but could not seem to send with the picture of the pot. it seems to be a flower with 812 and what looks like S M The mark on the cheek is reflected light, not a mark on the pot.

Answer: Hello, it’s not Red Wing, but I think it may be a Rookwood piece. Their mark is an "R" with marks above it, or flames. The number would be the shape and SM is the artist. Hand decorated, and very desireable by collectors with the native american portrait. If you can, send another pic of the bottom, and I will be able to say for sure. It’s a valuable piece. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing Mini Jugs

Question:
I wanted to know if these are Red Wing Fancy jugs. The smallest one is 2 1/2 inches tall and is marked Betis & Johnson, Fort Smith Arkansas on the front. There is no marking on the bottom. The second has a paper label that reads Bourbon Whiskey The Sanford Pharmacy 8 Main Street Boonville, NY and is marked R.W. S.W. Co on the bottom. It is 4 inches tall and has some glaze skips and a small chip at the bottom. I was guessing from the website that this might be a 1/8 and 1/4 pint, but the 4 inch jug holds about 1/2 pint completely full. I would love to know more about these! Thanks!

Thank you Steve and Rose

Question:
No question. Just wanted to say thanks to Steve n Rose for answering my question. I am the one who inquired about a B2009. I opened the website and saw my question front and center, felt like I was on T.V. or something. I wish that I had a picture of the vase but I am not that computer savvy yet. I also wish that I had checked the spelling. Thanks again. If I ever get tired of the vase I’ll send it to Nebraska for your museum. It’s a very nice piece of pottery.

you are most welcome! steve n rose
