question from: djniles@mwt.net

Question:
I purchased this beater jar at an auction.
An antique dealer told me it is a Red Wing.
There is no wing mark on the front and nothing
on the bottom. It is 5 1/4inches tall and
4 1/2 inches in diameter at the top.
Could it still be a Red Wing Beater Jar??

2 gallon crock, reverse oval

Question:
I purchased a 2 gallon Red Wing crock at an auction in Minnesota about 30 years ago. What intrigued me then was that the markings are not in the typical order (i.e., **gallon size, red wing, then blue oval ‘Red Wing… et al’ stamp**); it is stamped as follows: **gallon size [2], blue oval ‘Red Wing, Union Stoneware Co., Red Wing, Minn.’ and then the red wing**. I was told by the seller that the stamping plate was improperly positioned, and that ‘defective’ crocks such as these are usually destroyed. The crock is still in almost perfect condition / not even a hairline crack. Could you please provide an approximate value? (Sorry, not able to provide a picture at this time.) Thank you!

2 gallon Salt Glaze with lime stain

Question:
I have a salt glaze crock that has some vertical white residue lines on it which I have often seen on the salt glaze pieces. When I wipe it down with a cloth that is just damp, the lines disappear. After a few minutes when it dries, they reappear again. I have uploaded a pic and you can see the lines on it. I figure that since I frequently see them on other pieces that you may know what they could be. Thank you!
