Umbrella Stand

Question:
I saw a green brushware umbrella stand the other day, it was decorated with flowers. The tag said Red Wing. Did RW make such a piece and was the amount of $210 a good price. I didnt see any damage. Thanks Kathy D.

Answer:
Hi Kathy, Red Wing did make an umbrella stand, and 210.00 would be well worth the price if indeed it is Red Wing. RRP also made them, a "poppy" type pattern. Unless it is marked, I would be careful without more positive proof. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing Vase 1171

Question: {mosimage}
I just bought a beautiful Red-Wing vase at a garage sale. It is 9" high, creamy peach/pink on the outside and a crackled cream on the inside. On the bottom Red-Wing is two words with the hypen between. U.S.A. with a period after the U and the A is underneath the words Red-Wing. It’s numbered 1171 It has a small chip on the very top. Other than that it is in excellent condition. Do you have any clue as to what it’s value is? I would like to use it as a flower vase if it’s not worth too much. Thank You, Mary A. Holland MI

Answer:
Hi Mary, If you like it, keep it! Holding flowers are their main purpose. It is a fairly common vase, and the chip will hurt it’s value. thanks, steve n rose

Crock from 1915

Question: {mosimage}
Hi, I Recently came across a red wing crock in my mother’s cellar. I don’t know much athm this one has a 20 with a 6 in redwing and union stoneware oval seal. In very good shape on cracks (no Lid). also has wire with wood handels. Also has Patend Dec. 8 1915 mark. can you give me any information about this piece and possible value. Thanks Karen R.

Answer:
Karen, if your 20 gallon crock has a 6" wing and handles, it was most-likely manufactured right around 1915. In Mint condition with outstanding markings it would be valued around $200. Any damage such hairlines, cracks or chips will reduce it’s value. Al Kohlman

Oval Birch Leaf Churn

Question:
My mother-in-law died and everything is being sold. she has a churn with markings as follows…..number 6 an oval below that with union at the top of oval, in middle of oval the words stoneware co. at the bottom the words red wing minn. below that is two leaves. I have no idea what I should expect to pay. Help, please. Thanks Joyce S.

Answer:
Joyce, sounds like you have a Minnesota reverse oval birch leaf churn. If it has the original lid and no damage, it’s value is $375 to $450 depending on how sharp the churn looks. If the lid is missing subtract $100. Any damage such as chips, cracks or hairlines will reduce the value as well. Good luck. Al Kohlman

Hearthstone orange dinnerware

Question:
I am wondering what the price of Hearthstone orange dinnerware is selling for. I have 8 dinner plates, 8 large and 8 small bowls, and 4 cups. I also have 2 serving platters. It is from the late 70′s early 80′s. Orange with a brown rim. Thanks so much! Thanks Sara T.

Answer:
Sara, The Hearthstone Orange and Hearthstone Beige patterns were made by Red Wing for Sears stores. These patterns were made for only about one year, from mid-1966 until Red Wing Potteries closed in 1967. They are two of the six patterns made in the Ceramastone shape. Due to the short production time none of these patterns is very common, but they also don’t seem to be very popular with collectors. Assuming excellent condition, dinner plates are worth around $10, small bowls $5, large bowls $10, cups $5, and platters $15. Larry

Teapot – Two Step Pattern

Question: {mosimage}
A neighbor of my parents passed away and his children were putting items they thought might be of interest on the lawn for people to take. I picked up this teapot because I thought it looked interesting. I knew nothing about Red Wing, but noticed the name on the bottom. I believe it is the "Two Step" pattern. Any idea on a value for it? Thanks! Stephanie W.

Answer:
Stephanie, Your teapot is indeed from the Two Step pattern. It was made around 1960 and is not an easy piece to find. In excellent condition the value would be in the range of $50 to $75. Larry

Futura Tampico Pattern

Question:
My friend has a set of Red wing dinnerware- Futura 1955 pattern Tampico.(Watermelon) She has a meat platter, gravy boat, cups and saucers, plates, salt and pepper shaker, sugar bowl and creamer- approximately 30-40 pieces in total. She is wondering what the estimated value would be on this collection? Thanks Nancy H.

Answer:
Nancy, It’s difficult to answer your question because you’ve given only a partial description and an estimate of the number of pieces involved. I also need to know the condition of the items to make an accurate estimate. Assuming most of the pieces are common plates, bowls, cups, saucers and the several accessory pieces you mentioned, this lot would probably be worth in the range of $100 to $250. Value depends greatly on condition and just exactly what pieces are included. Larry

Blossom Time Plates

Question:
My home recented burned to the ground and I am trying to establish value for what I lost. I have a set of 8 dinner plates and 8 salad plates of the attached Red Wing pattern (logo is on back of plate), which I can not find on your site. Can you tell me the name of the pattern and an approximate value for each of the 2 plate sizes? Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Regards, Susan

Answer:
Susan, My sympathies to you on your loss. Your plates are from the Blossom
Time pattern, made in the late 1940s to early 1950s. In excellent
condition, value would be $15 to $20 for the dinner plates and around
$10 for the salad plates.

Deviled Egg Platter

Question:
Hi, I have a top condition Redwing Deviled Egg Platter with the top that covers the middle \’shallow bowl\’ in the platter. I have not idea what it is worth, and could not find a comparable egg platter to price it. Can you assist me? Assume it is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. THANKS, Pete L.

Answer:
Pete, Without a photo or more complete description I can’t be much help. Red Wing introduced their egg plate with covered center section in 1952, and decorated it with many of the dinnerware patterns available at that time. Egg plates were made for most of the Concord patterns as well as the two Fancy Free patterns.

None of these egg plates are easy to find, especially with the cover. But some patterns are more rare and/or more highly collected than others and thus can have considerably more value. Low end would be around $50 to $75; upper end would be $200 to $300 for certain patterns.

4 Gallon Salt Glaze Beehive Jug

Question:
I just bought a 4 gallon salt glaze beehive jug at an auction. The salt glaze "coloring" looked uniform on the jug. When I got home and had it on my kitchen table with the light on above you can see that a good third of the jug has a blueish gray hue on it. I read the process how they achieved the salt glaze look. I am wondering if this side would have been in the kiln and not had any salt on it? The jug is in excellent condition otherwise. Any ballpark idea what this may be worth? I am just a beginner so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeanne S.

Answer:
Jeanne, there may be a number of reasons for the different hues on the jug. It could have been close to another piece, outside wall, not enough salt shoveled into the kiln for an even coating, etc. As far as the value goes, I really need to see a photo of the jug and the decoration that is applied to it. The decoration is the largest factor when it comes to value. After the decoration comes detail, cobalt darkness, the glaze on the jug and of course condition. If you could at the very least tell me the decoration and condition, I could give you a ball park estimate. Al Kohlman
