15 gallon red wing crock

Question:

I have a 15 gallon crock (currently in storage) which I used for years to make saurkraut.  I never have had a lid for it.

The crock is in very good condition with no chips or cracks other than the flaws in manufacture.  All the lettering and the wing is distinct.  If a picture is needed I can have it in a couple days.

Due to downsizing the crock must go.  I am looking for a ballpark price for which to ask.

Gerry

Answer:

A 15 gallon Red Wing crock in perfect condition has a value between $175 & $200.  al

Gray Line refrigerator jar

Question:

Hi, we have a piece of Red Wing pottery that we are considering selling.  It has been in my husbands family for many years.  It is in pristine condition.
Could you give us an idea of what this is worth, we are considering putting it on eBay.

The bowl is 3 3/8 inches tall, and is 4 5/8 across at the top.
The cover is lipped, and is 4 3/4 inches across.
With the cover on, the piece is 3 3/4 inches high.
There are 2 markings on the bottom of the bowl.  One that looks like a stamp says Made in Red Wing.
There is also an indentation that says 4 1/2.
There are many little holes that appear to be part of the glazing process.
There is one very small rough spot on the inside of the cover, but doesn’t appear to be a chip, again, maybe part of the glazing process.
The other markings are the ‘spongewear’ band around the top of the ribbed bowl and around the top of the cover.
Primary colors for the ‘spongewear’ markings are blue and a rust color.
Thanks, Lori

8 gallon Red Wing with lid

Question: Hello: We have an 8 gallon Red Wing crock with a lid.  It has a patent date of what appears to be Dec 21, 1915; marked Red Wing Union Stoneware Co., Red Wing, MN; and also has a red wing mark.  It is in near perfect condition.  Would be interested knowing the estimated value.

We also have a two tone (brown/gray) crock with the only discernable marking of a 5.  This is in good condition – no chips. Would be interested to know if it is a Red Wing crock and the estimated value.

Thank you.
Sue

Answer:

lets break this all down.  The 8 gallon Red Wing lid has a value between $175 & $200.  The 8 gallon Red Wing crock $150.  The two tone crock is not Red Wing so no idea of value. Al

8 gallon, 6 inch wing, ski oval crock

Question: I was interested in getting an estimated production year and value on this 8 gallon crock.  No chips or cracks, but a light 4” diameter crow’s feet hairline on the inside bottom and a 2” hairline on the outside bottom edge around the right side.  Both hairlines are faint and I believe only to be in the glazing.

The top diameter is slightly out of round as well.  Not sure if that would impact the value much.

Thanks,

Chris

Answer:

Nice looking 8 gallon Red Wing with a six inch wing.  Production was between 1909 and before 1915. Value with the crows feet hairlines $150 to $175.  al
