40 gallon self draining crock

Question:
I was needing some info on my crock. It is a 40 gallon self draining crock, I have been told that it is a redwing it has a stamp on the front of it saying "perfect sanitary self draining jar" It has a wooden base with 4 rollers on it. It seems to be the original base. I would like to know the value.

Thank you, Heather

Answer:
Heather, Red Wing perfection self draining jar of this size are hard to display and take up quite a bit of space. Therefore, there is not a huge demand for them with most collectors. If there is no damage on the crock, it’s value would be in the range of $500.

One Gallon Crock

Question: {mosimage}
I have an old old crock which has been around and about for many many years. The front of the crock displays the red wing mark which is a rusty brown color. It is a lidded crock measuring 8 inches tall not including the lid. The diameter of the base measures 7 inches. Not too sure what the gallon size is.

Could you please give me some info on this crock, any info you may have on it would be appreciated. It is stoneware I have no idea if it is salt glaze or otherwise. I know that it is older than the hills and would appreciate any assistance you are able to give.

The wing mark measures 4 inches in length to the tip of the wing and 2 inches in width. No apparent marks anywhere on the jug other than the red wing at the front.

- thanks, Nancy

Answer:
Nancy, you have a Red Wing 1 gallon crock. These 1 gallon crocks with wings are somewhat hard to come by. The lid is not Red Wing however. The value on your crock if there is no chips, hairlines or cracks is around $450. Any damage and the the value will be reduced.

Looking for lid for 6 gallon cooler

Question:
I recently purchased a great Redwing 6 gallon water cooler, and I am looking for a correct lid. Do you know anyone who has one for sale?
- Thanks Rick

Answer:
Rick, the best bet to find a water cooler lid for your 6 gallon Red Wing cooler is to place an ad in Wing Tips or Ebay. Six gallon cooler lids are a little harder to find than the 3, 4 or 5.

Red Wing 8 gallon water cooler

Question: {mosimage}
I have a Redwing 8 gal. water cooler that I can’t find in the reference books. It seems to be a transitional style…. no handles and a raised six sided area by the spigot hole. An 8 is stamped on the inside bottom. See attached pix. Would appreciate any information and approximate value.
- Thanks Jim

Answer:
Jim the photo I received only shows the back of the cooler. Could you send me one of the front. There was no mention of a Red Wing on the cooler or if there was any damage. If I could have a little more info on any damage and see the front of the cooler, I could better help you out.

3 Gallon Bal Lock Jar

Question: {mosimage}
Hi, Would you have any information you could share with me regarding this piece? I’d like to know what it was used for, how old it is and its value.
Thank you so much. Cathy

Answer:
Cathy, you have a Red Wing 3 gallon Ball Lock Jar (sometimes called applesauce jars). They were produced in 5, 3 & 2 gallon sizes. Each jar had a lid and a wire devise to lock down the lid. They were manufactured around 1920 and continued into the 1930s. If your jar was complete with top & wire lock down device, the value would be around $250. Without the lid & lock down device figure about half.

Ten Gallon Redwing Crock

Question:
I found a self draining 10 gallon Redwing Crock. It appears to have had concrete mixed inside of it for some reason. Maybe so it would not drain? It looks as though it has been iced like a cake on the inside. There are no visible cracks, chips or repairs to the outside that would make this concrete mixture of any use. It has the red wing, a blue 10 and the inscription self draining. Could you tell me if it is worth anyting?
Thank you in advance. Nancy

Answer:
Nancy, the cement in your self draining jar will definitely hurt it’s value. However, there are always a few collectors looking for porch pieces (something that can sit out side and no great loss if it is stolen). It may still have a value of $50 to $75 depending on how back someone would want it. If the coating of cement is thin, it may be worth a little more.
