Red Wing Jolly Jar Follow up

Question:
Thank you for your answers to the questions I had about Red Wing Artware pieces 1216 and 723-S. You mentioned that the "jolly jar" has 3 distinct patterns, and not green. I’m sorry, but what do you mean by an aftermarket piece? The bottom mark on the covered green piece is "Red Wing" USA with the number 723-S which is the same number that identifies the "jolly jar". I’m not familiar with the terminology "aftermarket". Thank you in advance for your explanation. Susan

Answer: Hi Susan, some molds of Red Wing were sold to other companies, or "hobby shops" where they were remade and glazed in any number of colors. The markings are still there, they just weren’t made by Red Wing. Hope I haven’t confused you more!! thanks, steve n rose

Stoneware,smear oval

Question:
I have recently purchased a jug (online) from a Billings, Montana auction. I couldn’t personally look over the jug before bidding and had to go by a single, slightly out of focus picture. But what I saw in the picture intrigued me — a brown topped Red Wing jug with a wing and oval! When I rec’d the jug, two things sent up red flags to me. The color of the wing is a much deeper red than is commonly seen, however I have seen a rare 1 gallon lid before with a similar colored wing, and I feel that was a ‘good’ lid. ( Not too many lids out there with wings stamped on them). The other thing that looks suspect with this jug is the oval – it is smaller than I have ever seen (1-1/8" across).. it is a Union Stoneware Co. oval. The way the ink was applied for the oval looks suspect also, but I don’t know. Have you ever seen markings like this before? Can you offer any advise for me… I kinda think I am out $325 on my risky purchase. Regards, Tim Mikita

Jardinier, flower pot

Question:
I have a large rosy pink mottled look item. I think it is called a Jardinier……It is Red Wing pottery. It has metal handles….in the shape of a circle…about 2 in. in diameter…Nowadays, you would call it a planter. It is probably about 16 in. or more high…and probably 12 or 13 in. across the top with a decorative one inch lip at the top. My mother gave it to me at least 30 or 35 years ago….She had one it in a drawing of some kind in Red Wing……She had it several years before she gave it to me…..By the way it is glazed. Thanks for your help in finding out the age and also what is worth……. Florence Ryan 1208 N. Garden St. Lake City, MN 55041

Answer: Hi Florence, We think you have a flower pot! Or Jardinere, or planter, they are all the same for the most part. A shape # would be great, but think your item is from the late 50′s, in fleck zephyr pink. They came in several sizes. Value would be around 65.00. thanks, steve n rose
