Question:
This Cookie Jar was from my father’s family and it says ‘Red Wing, Safferon Ware’ on the bottom, along with a ’2′ carved also in the bottom. It is in really good condition with no cracks or chips. It’s 6 3/4′ round by 7′ tall to the lid top. Could you also help me with the information with value, what it was called because of the flowers on the front, and what that carved number ’2′ means? Thank you very much for your help.
Answer: These were some of Red Wing’s earlier cookie jars. All were decorated with "cold" paint, not being fired on. There are many variations of the handpainted design, this being a nice one. Value is around 275-200. Am drawing a blank about the "2", but hope this will help you. thanks, steve n rose
Question:
Green Leafed Pottery : The small one says ‘Red Wing Union Stoneware Co., Red Wing, MN’. The inside finish is glossy. It’s size is 12 1/4” round (top) and 10 1/2′ tall. It has a chip/flaw on the inside top rim. The large one has no writing on the bottom, with matte finish. It’s size is 14 1/2′ round (top) by 11 3/4′ tall. Could you please give info/estimated value on these two also? Thank you, Juliana
Answer: Hello Juliana, These flower pots are part of the Bushed Ware line, circa 1938. Having the mark is good. There were other companies who made the same shape. The chip will hurt, but value is around 65-70. The larger one 100-120. thanks, steve n rose
