Hello, I found this Red Wing piece and haven’t found anything about it online. It’s about 5.5 inches wide and 7 inches tall. It’s stamped "RED WING / USA / B1712" I’d like to know what you can tell me about it. Does the "B" in the model number have a particular significance, i.e. some sort of series? Thank you. -Genevieve

Answer: Genevieve, this piece is actually B1412, a design by Belle Kogan, hence the "B". Circa 1942. no particular line that it belongs to, but there are a few similar shaped ones. Value is around 20.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose

Brushed Ware Flower Pots

Question:
I have a set of three green stoneware flowerpots . They are round, ornately decorated and about 2-3 inches tall. They appear to be a set because each one fits into the other. Marked on the bottom of all three pots is a circle with the words Red Wing , Union Stoneware Co., and Red Wing, Minn. There appears to be a signature of some sort outside and above the circle on the small one, but it is not legible by me.

The outside of each piece has a split decoration. The top decoration on the small one (5" pot) is oak leaves and acorns….bottom decoration has the appearance of bark running up and down. The medium pot (6"pot) is decorated at the top with a running swirl scroll and the bottom has a diamond shaped latice running scroll on the bottom with a line running down the middle of each diamond pattern. The last and largest pot (7-8\" pot) is decorated at the top with running ovals with flower inserts and the bottom with stripes and 4 dots (between each stripe)running down the length of the bottom band. A green glaze is on the interior of each pot. Can you tell me anything about these pots? Thank you for your time.

Answer: Red Wing made many different flower pots. Finding them marked is the hard thing. These would be from around 1930. With the different patterns, they don’t belong as a "set" so to speak. The flower pots varied n size from 4 to 16" in size.

Part of the brushed ware or garden lines, their value is around 50.00 or so each. thanks, steve n rose

vase 1376

Question:
Thank you for your answer regarding my vase #1376, the picture was taken in a blue room, perhaps the refection makes it look blue but it is not. It is fleak beige tones and the interior is lavender. I have looked at other pieces described as Fleck Nile Blue and they definately have more blue tones to them. Regards – Christine

Answer: hello again, in that case, the glaze would be light gray/gray fleck–don’t ask me why, but it’s called gray, while it is a tan colored glaze. thanks, steve n rose
