Question:
Bought this old crock at an estate sale this weekend. I have no idea of the age, maker, or value. It’s a 4 gallon, cobolt markings on the handles, and a simple pattern, in cobolt, below the 4. No makers marks. It’s definately salt glazed and you can tell that either it was not properly glazed or the salt has eaten through (?). Can you tell me the maker, age and if it has any value. Inside is slipped with a dark, lustery (sparkly) brown, almost black. Has a distinct band around outside of crock, and the inside is not smooth, rather it’s ribbed from top to bottom. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Heidi
Answer: Heidi, I am afraid all I can tell you about your 4 gallon salt glazed crock is that it is not Red Wing. Have no idea of who produced it or it’s value. Sorry I could not be of further help. Al Kohlman
