Question:
I have a plain jug with a smaller blue number 5 and nothing else on it. It is quite large and I believe the 5 is for 5 gal and it is the normal stoneware color. Is it a Red wing? Gaylene

Additional info:

I sent in a question – not answered as of yet but I forgot to say that the number 5 is below the rim as if the wing and the rest was left off and I have never seen that before- the 5 is also open as if fancier- by that I mean not a solid 5. Thanks for your help

Answer: Gaylene, I am sure that the number 5 stands for 5 gallons. However, every stoneware company in the mid-west produced 5 gallon jugs. Without a photo of your jug, I cannot say if it is Red Wing, Western, Ohio or even Eastern. Send me a photo and I will be happy to help you out. Al Kohlman
