Question:
Hello. I have a 2 gallon birch leaf crock that I am curious about (Red Wing?, production time, why no company oval, and value if possible). There is a funny crescent moon shape mark in the bottom that appears to be done during the molding process. There is also a chip on the bottom that is roughly the size of a pencil eraser. Thank you very much for your time. Jeff
Answer: Jeff, your 2 gallon Birch leaf crock was produced in Red Wing between 1895 & 1909. Red Wing produced a number of these crocks for Sears and Roebuck. Sears and Roebuck pieces were not produced with an oval. Also, if a vendor were to request crocks without and oval, they would have produced them this way. Value in mint condition is between $40 & $50. Al Kohlman
