Question:
I have a bean pot? that was my grandmothers. It is glazed inside and on the lid. The outside is unglazed. The glaze color is a warm sienna type brown. The outside is a matte ochre. On the bottom in has a raised stamp that reads Red Wing USA 405. There is also a # 117 on the interior of the lid I will try to attach a picture. I am wondering what the value might be. Thank you so much, Bonnie

Answer: Your bottom marked bean pot is from the Provincial Bakeware line produced in the 1960s. But the exterior of this bean pot is glazed, not unglazed. In the 1940s Red Wing produced a nearly identical line named Provincial Cooking Ware. The exteriors of these pieces were bisque (unglazed) with the same rust colors interiors and covers. The Red Wing mark was stamped into the sides of these pieces rather than the bottom as on your bean pot. The bisque exteriors of the 1940s line proved impossible to keep clean, so when Red Wing brought this set back in the 1960s they glazed the exteriors with a bisque-colored glaze. Neither the 1940s or 1960s version of these baking pieces holds much interest to collectors. Value for your bean pot in excellent condition would be $20-$25. The stains that are evident on your bean pot would decrease the value significantly, by at least half.
