Question:
I have a 40,50,60 Redwing crocs. Do the lids all have numbers on the lids that match the size of the crock? I have a lid with a 30 on it but way to big for the 30 crock. It fits the 60 perfect? also the 50 is clearly marked and fits fine. the 40 fits fine, but does not have the 40 on the Lid. I also bought a #30 that has 2 identical 30s and wings and stamps only 4inches apart. A mistake but I have never seen one with 2 and that close. Most are on opposite sides, not close together. Thanks for your help.
Answer: Not all of the lids have the gallon-age number on them, especially the button lids. Some have the numbers on top of the button where others, the button is plain. On the larger bail handle lids, the gallon-age is usually incised in one of the petals or even stenciled on one. The numbers on the lids are suppose to fit the the same size crock which would have the same gallon-age number on it. However, this is not always the case. I have seen 60 gallon crocks that are so tall & narrow that a 20 to 25 gallon lid could fit them. So whatever lid fits the best and looks the nicest is the way to go. The 30 gallon with the double stamps being close to the other is one of those odd balls that cannot always be explained. This may have been ordered this way, or just done out of boredom. Either Way, this is a very rare and hard to come by piece. Hope all of this helps. Al Kohlman
