Question:
What is the value of this item. I just retrived it from my mother’s "root celler". It was used by my grandfather to brew wine during the depression. It is in encellent shape except for a surface crack on the bottom which does not go through the jar. It does hold the full 10 gallons of liquid without showing signs of leaking. Thank you Dave
Answer: Dave, on your 10 gallon Red Wing crocks value. As a collector, a crack is a crack whether it leaks or not. I have been to a number of sales and houses and can’t tell you the number of people who will say, "Oh it has a chip, but that is normal for the age of the crock". For a collector to find a chip, flake, hairline or crack, this is not normal and will affect the value. Not trying to be sarcastic, but want to let everyone know that values are effected by these flaws. Value on your 10 gallon would be tween $40 & $50. Hope this helps explain things. Al Kohlman
