Question:
I was wondering how much this red wing all blue spongeware bowl is worth. I collect spongeware panel bowls and found this 6 in all blue only spongeware bowl. It is same size as the red wing 6 normal spongeware bowl. It has no chips, cracks or crazing. I did find something much like it on page 97 of red wing stoneware identification guide by Dan DePasquale, Gail Peck and Larry Peterson. It the small book with the two reding number 2 churns on the front. I was wondering what something like this would sell for??
Answer: On page 97 for the 2006 Red Wing Stoneware book, they have the value listed between $1,000 & $1,200. However, there are two things that are going against you. The first is the lighter blue sponging of your bowl compared to the one in the book. Even more important is the economy or today’s markets. The markets are down and it is affecting most everything. Now don’t get me wrong, you have a nice & rare bowl here, I just don’t think you can put the 2006 book value out of it today. Realistically, I would place the value between $800 & $900. However, sit on it for a few years and who knows where it will go. Al Kohlman
