Question:
We have a 5 gallon jug. It is white. The markings on the jug are as follows: There is a 5. Below the 5 there is a picture of red wings. Below the red wings there is an oval with this inside: Red Wing is on top. In the middle there is Union Stoneware Company. At the bottom of the oval is Red Wing , Minnesota. the three items in the oval are separated by a line. This jug has been passed down through the family and I believe it is turn of the century. Could you let us know if this could be correct and the possible value of the jug

Answer: Red Wing made two types of jugs. The earliest is the Beehive jug. The Beehive jug is in the shape of a beehive with no straight lines or lip. In mint condition the value is around $350. The later style and most abundant is the shoulder jug. With the shoulder jug, you will find straight sides and at the top of the jug where the dome attaches to the sides there is a shoulder or lip that is about 1/2 inches wide. Value on this jug is around $50 to $75. You will need to look over you jug and see which one you have. Al Kohlman
