Question:
Mr. Kohlmann, I recently acquired this 3 gal. redwing churn, and was wondering if you could fill me in on the history of this particular style, along with a rough price estimate. The churn is in good condition, without any cracks. There are a couple small chips on the underside of the lid, but not visible. Thank you, Bruce
Answer: Bruce, you have a Minnesota Stoneware Company elephant ear churn. This churn was manufactured somewhere between 1895 and 1906. The Minnesota Stoneware Company used two kinds of leaves to decorate their stoneware. The most common was the birch leaves and the second being elephant ears. Being that this leaf is not as common has the birch leaf, it demands a higher value. Collectors love these churns an if your’s had an oval, the value would be even higher. Your churn in it’s condition would have a value in the area of $450 to $550 with lid and dasher. Al Kohlman
